Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of the designated supervisor (depending on the location) and in collaboration with a clinical overseer, the Medical Assistant is responsible for performing clerical and clinical duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
-S/he manages day-to-day patient appointments and schedule coordination.
-S/he greets, identifies, transports and/or escorts patients to the exam room.
-S/he obtains medical history and takes vital signs.
-S/he provides instructions to patients regarding any diagnostic tests and procedures.
-S/he prepares and labels specimens obtained based on Labeling Policy.
-S/he performs EKG, vision, hearing and necessary screenings according to departmental standards.
-S/he documents testing/results per practice protocol
-S/he administers immunizations based on written orders (as allowed by the practice license)
-S/he ensures examination rooms are properly supplied
-S/he participates in huddles to anticipate, understand and address the daily needs of our patients.
-S/he reviews patient records against quality measures and best practice indicators.
-S/he monitors patient progress by utilization of disease specific registries to proactively reach out to
-S/he assumes other duties as requested.
Skills and Abilities:
-Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to communicate with patients, family members and other healthcare providers.
-Knowledge in medical terminology.
-Must have strong problem solving abilities and analytical skills to ensure patient’s needs are met.
-Must have basic computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information.
-Must have good organization skills, ability to multitask and to prioritize daily assignments, ensuring smooth work flow.
License/Certification:
-High School Diploma or Equivalent
-Certification in Medical Assistant Training or enrollment in nursing school, physician assistant school or completion of bachelorโs degree with health science training, or EMT certification.
-BLS Certificate through American Heart Association (AHA)
Others:
-COVID Vaccines + Booster and 2024-2025 flu vaccine required at time of submission (declinations not accepted). If candidate does not have current flu vaccine we will accept an attestation stating they will receive it prior to start
-Local candidates within 20 miles Required
-Cannot have worked perm/travel for any Beth Israel facility within the past year.
